Before there was `Star Wars,` long before `Lord of the Rings there were: RADAR MEN FROM THE MOON - Episodes 1-12: Strategic targets on Earth are being destroyed by an unknown weapon. Government security head Henderson suspects it`s an `atomic ray` originating from the moon! He assigns Commando Cody, scientist and man of action with a secret flying suit, to investigate. Soon, Cody is battling Earth thugs in the pay of Krog the moon man and making trips in his experimental rocket to the moon itself, in a perilous and all but singlehanded effort to thwart the planned invasion of Earth. Takes three hours on DVD. (Video store in San Bernardino, Calif., has a Commando Cody `flying` suit, with its disarmly simple instructions next to dials mounted on the wearer`s chest: UP, DOWN, SLOW, FAST.)

Guys: Just go to `Radar Sites` on the left-hand menu, and type in `Ajo` for location. (Spelling counts.) Click on the respective links for `Ajo AFS` and `Ajo` ... and, voilą -- mystery solved! :-)

I would like to recommend you change recommend the site at carmi AFS SM137 change to a manned radar site the sqd was the 704 AC$W SQD The site is still intact with 4 dorms which one was the NCO club & medics. the others were for ops and radar maint, support personel.chow hall, orderly rm,nco dorm, supply motor pool are still there. power house sits on the high point where the radar antenna sat. the radar was tps-1d. no hf had been installed due to pending deactivation.we reported to bellville (agony) site IF my memory is correct went oper in 1955 and closed in 1957. we operated 24/7 with 3man crews. there were about 75 t0 90 men stationed there.

We have two entries for Carmi -- the manned Carmi AFS and the planned/not-built unmanned Carmi Gap-Filler Annex. Your comments obviously refer to the latter. Check out the former by goung to `Radar Sites` and entering `Carmi AFS` on the `Location` line. You will see that no change is needed. Further, we have recent photos which I took myself in May of last year. Enjoy!

Your are right. When i was stationed at Luke AFB in 1967- 70 it was still operational. I don`t know exactly when it closed but I believe there is now an ARSR-4 maintained by FAA at that location. Fellow Radar Chief

I am the nephew of Capt. Sixto Mangual. Though I had never met him I heard many stories about him from my father (Tato) and my aunts and uncles. I have a copy of the History Channels special. My son and daughter both saw the show. I`m greatful that we have this piece of history in our family and that I could share this with my family. I`m very proud of my uncle and the Mangual family name. To all the men and women who have served and are now serving in the arm forces...Thank You and God Bless you all.
