History of Odessa-Andrews, TX (FAA site)

Using an ARSR-1 radar, this joint-use facility began contributing information to the Air Defense Command network in 1963. In 1972 the 630th Radar Squadron sent a detachment to set up and operate an AN/FPS-90 height-finder radar. Circa 1977 the AN/FPS-90 was modified to an AN/FPS-116 version; this height-finder radar was then retired circa 1988. This radar facility dropped out of the JSS network in the late 1990s after new ARSR-4 radars were commissioned at western Texas sites such as King Mountain. However, after 9/11/2001, a data-tie into the JSS was re-established. The ARSR-1 was modified to a CARSR in Sept 2012.
