Recent Photos of Weeks Island GFA, LA

May 2001 photos and notes contributed by Tom Page

The former GFA radar building, as seen from the access road (now restricted from public access). Geographically, Weeks Island is a large salt dome rising out of the southern Louisiana wet lands (the Morton Salt Company has a mining operation there). The salt dome`s relative height made it ideal for a radar site.

A closer view of the former GFA radar building ("front" side). The three radar-tower foundations were observed in the underbrush to the left.

Another view of the "front" side of former GFA radar building; the diesel-generator wing is seen to the right (west).
