Visited the MITRE site at Boston Hill in Andover, MA. Site owner said that it was purchased from his uncle in the early 50`s for MIT and the Air Force`s experimental radar work. A large uncovered antenna was mounted on the top of the tower. A welded circular rail road track is still on top of the building.

He said there was a room for Air Force personnel in the metal building that was attached to the two lower radar units. There was also a air/ground radio system at the site. For this part of the country it is the largest radar structure I have seen to date. There is actually an operating freight elevator that opera=tes to all 6 floors.
