The following seven photos are courtesy of the Terrebonne Parish (LA) Sheriff's Office, and are found at http://www.tpso.net/inmatework.aspx under the heading of "Terrebonne Vocational-Technical High School."  These recent photos show renovation of the old Air Force AN/FPS-67 search radar tower and Operations building.  The first photo shows the old Air Force AN/FPS-90 (or AN/MPS-14) height-finder tower still standing, but the fourth photo (taken later) shows the tower's remains on the ground.

Tom writes: "... I continued east on I-10 to Lafayette, where I exited onto US Route 90 to go to Houma. It was at this point that I realized the significance of touring southern Louisiana on Mardi Gras Tuesday!! Every school down there lets out early, and seemingly every town has a parade! Fortunately, I passed through all the towns before their parades started. Houma was just starting to have its main street blocked off as I got there, and a friendly police officer gave me directions to the airport that bypassed main street. [Incidentally, Houma is the only town I`ve seen that has a tunnel underneath the Intracoastal Waterway.] I located the former Houma AFS easily enough (thanks largely to your map). The gates to the old radar station were locked, probably because the school there (i.e., the Terrebonne Vocational Technical High School) had closed early for Mardi Gras. However, I could see most everything from the entrance gate, so that was okay. As seen in my photos, the old AN/FPS-67B and AN/FPS-90 (or AN/MPS-14 ?) towers were still standing. Still, I would have liked to have walked around the other side of the base, to see if any foundations or footings of the old AN/FPS-28 radar tower remained. I wanted to find out just where that tower stood, and confirm that the tower was a steel truss type, like the prototype AN/FPS-24 radar tower at Eufaula AFS. For once, I decided to respect the "No Trespassing" signs, and did not enter the grounds."

At the time of this visit, the building shown here was thought to have been the GATR facility for Houma AFS. However, we now know the GATR site was on the radar site proper, on its south side. The topographical map labels this site as a "US MIL RES," so this building still might have been associated with Houma AFS -- perhaps it was a TELCO building or something like that (?). We do not know.
