Reportedly, this was to have been the site of the SAGE Direction Center for the never-activated Raleigh Air Defense Sector (RaADS). According to sources, construction was cancelled at this site soon after ground breaking. The actual planned name of the base is unknown to us -- the site was just east of the town of Calypso, NC, so maybe it would have been Calypso AFS? We may never know.
