Recent Photos of Adair AFS, OR BOMARC Site

1997 photos & notes contributed by Mark Morgan

(BOMARCs & Roller Coasters Tour 3/97 – 24 Jun 97) – North of Corvallis and Adair AFS, turn right to the E.E. Wilson Wildlife Area through the remains of old Camp Adair and there you are.

The truth is out there, as are the concrete pads for the twenty-eight BOMARC shelters. Wow! While the site is completely overgrown, there`s still quite a bit to find, as distinguished from the former Paine AFB installation.

The individual shelter floors are concrete, measuring about 22-ft wide by 48-ft long. At the south end of each are four concrete posts topped by metal plates with bolt holes, which I assume would have been part of the supports for the roof structure. There is also no evidence of blast pits at either end of the shelters.

Nor are there much in the way of roads; the property is heavily covered with brush and trees and some paths that correspond to roads are evident. I also found two utility pads with valve and electrical conduit remains, and one large concrete area adjacent to the main gate, roughly 80-ft by 100-ft. Whether it was a parking area or the foundation for a building, I have no idea.

Anyway, it`s a recognizable BOMARC site...barely.
