The photo above shows that the radar tower for the then 'new' AN/FPS-117 Minimally-Attended Radar (MAR) at the new Cold Bay LRRS (A-08) was originally the AN/FPS-6 height-finder radar tower at the original Cold Bay AFS (F-26) (earlier the Cold Bay DEW-Line site, COB-Main).
The 'nipple' on top of the radome was the omni antenna for the AN/FPS-6 height-finder radar. Also, the original Cold Bay AFS (F-26) site is seen in the background. This radar tower, no doubt, is the one seen at http://www.radomes.org/museum/photos/ColdBayAFSAK1970714.jpg and other vintage pix.
We had no idea the AN/FPS-6 tower was trucked over to the 'new' radar site. But this photo certainly shows that to be the case. The date must have been some time in late 1984 or early 1985.
