Site History and Findings of Fact

The U.S. Government leased 0.23 acres from Morton Salt Co on 1 June 1956. The The Government constructed the gap filler site, which provided radar coverage by unmanned radar equipment. England Air Force Base, located in Alexandria, LA, was the support base for this installation. Improvements placed upon the property consisted of one concrete bulding, one steel tower, one underground fuel strorage tank, and a chain link fence. On 18 June 1963, the site was declared excess by the 32nd Air Div (SAGE). The radar equipment and steel tower were removed prior to acceptance of the building by Morton Salt Company.

Current Use of Site at time of FUDS Report

A 1986 inspection revealed the interior of the building was full of debris and trash. The report stated the building was used by Morton Salt for storage, and also that the chain link fence was gone.
