East of Kiwi Avenue, ¼ mile north of Highway 1, southwest of the town of Washington, Washington County, Section 26 of Franklin Township, IA

Site History and Findings of Fact

The 0.49-acre parcel was obtained by condemnation on December 10, 1958. The Air Force constructed and operated the gap filler until excessed to GSA on August 5, 1968. The parcel was conveyed to the Dept of Health, Education, and Welfare, which quitclaimed it to the Community School District of Washington, IA.

At the time of the 1985 report, the owner was using the building for storage and the radar tower for a radio transmitting antenna.

January, 2002 correspondence with the transportation director of the school district reveals that the building is still used for storage and the radio tower is used for two-way radio transmission. Dish antennae are no longer mounted on the tower.
