Built in 1956, Mt Hebo AFS finally got a boat in 1966 and we were so close to the ocean. Our brand new Pacific City Dory boat was built specifically for use in the Pacific and for landing on the Pacific City beach that you could see from the top of Mt Hebo. It had a flat bottom and you could ride the surf right up onto the beach where your vehicle could tow it home. The outboard was in a motor well and could be raised up for the landing. The landing was almost as much fun as the fishing. Nothing, however, could match the taste of fresh broiled salmon in the Dining Hall!
