Well, the marker is up at the eastbound Hathaway rest stop. As luck would have it I was there as the state maint guys were putting it up. Note the shovels under the marker. Looks great. Thanks again for all the work you did putting this together. I didn`t get close enough to read the inscription easily but we already have a good picture of that. Monty

As some of you are aware I have been working on getting an historical marker installed somewhere near the entrance of our old base in Miles City. I contacted the Montana Historical Society about a year and a half ago and I was given the name of Jon Axline who is in charge of historical markers for the Montana Department of Transportation. He and I have been working on this project since March of 2006 and I can say there is success. Attached is a picture of the marker as finished in the MDT shops.

The marker is going to be installed at the Hathaway rest stop on I 94. Hathaway, if you don`t remember is about 11 miles west of the former entrance to the base. This is as close as he can get it to the exit to the old base. Federal rules will not allow him to put it near the original exit. There is also a plus in that the rest stop is manned from May until November. This will help in reducing vandalism. From November to May the sign will be taken down and stored and then put back up in May. In the future a new rest stop is to be built at the West exit of I 94 to Miles City. When that stop is built he wants to do more of an interpretive display about the 902nd.

Installation of the marker is to be done before the end of August [2007]. I would appreciate it one of you men who live near Hathaway would check out the rest stop and get a digital picture which we can then email to everyone that this email has been sent to. It can also be down loaded to the 902nd page on the Radomes.org web site.

If there is anyone you know who was stationed there and who`s email address I don`t have please forward it to them.

This has been a fun project and working with Jon Axline has been a real pleasure. Jon is interested in Cold War history and our stories of time spent at the 902nd. Send Jon an email and let him know how much you appreciate his efforts.
