Makah AFS, WA
AN/FPS-26 Radome Deflation 1980

Contributed by Don Miles

After the AN/FPS-26 height-finder antenna assembly was uncovered, Don and another NCO arranged for a helicopter to lift it off the tower, and carry it down to the cantonment area for use as a static display. (We have a couple of photos of that static display at Makah AFS. That same antenna assembly was later relocated to McChord AFB (WADS), where it again serves as a static display outside the SAOC building; we have some photos of it there, too.)
Obviously Don knew the dome was about to be deflated, so he positioned himself on the roof of the Operations building, and took the photos as it was coming down.
