Grafton Gap Filler Annex (P-29B) Site Location On Grafton Municipal Airport, app. 2 miles west of Grafton, Walsh County, ND

Site History

Between 1 November 1955 and 25 February 1957, DOD acquired a total of 0.66 acre from the City of Grafton for construction of the Grafton Gap Filler Annex (Z-29B). Easement acreage was also purchased and leased. The gap filler was established to support Finley Air Force Station, North Dakota. The property was located on the Grafton Municipal Airport, and the lease stipulated that any improvements placed upon the land by the Government could be sold or abandoned in-place upon termination of the agreement. On October 18 1968 the land and many of the improvements were reported excess to GSA, with exception of the 60KW diesel generator and associated equipment, which was moved to Grand Forks AFB, North Dakota. The lease to the property was terminated on 13 March 1969, with the access and utility easement transferred back to the City of Grafton dated 29 January 1969. The remaining improvements were donated to the City of Grafton in a letter from GSA dated 11 February 1969. Prior to vacating the property, the 60KW generator, radar tower, and electrical equipment were removed by DOD.
