COMMANDO CLUB TEAMS
On-site 11 March 1968

On Duty Radar Team was in the Ops Van the majority of the time running air combat missions. Blanton and Shannon were shot as they exited the van to investigate shooting. Calfee went down but fought on as a sniper under the vans, killing two Sappers and helping Team Two.

On Duty Non-Radar Team personnel were in several different locaions including the vans, sleeping quarters and outside equipment (Husband, Starling). They were "on call" should their technical expertise be required in support of the mission. Husband witnessed the fight.

Crew Rest, Radar Team Two personnel were in the trench (Sliz, Etchberger, Gish). Gish had gotten all their weapons and vests from the Sleeping Quarters. Shortly after 0200 the three joined Daniel and Springsteadah in the crevasse between 20 and 40 feet below the ridgeline. They were attacked by Sapper Cell #3 around 0315 which continued until their rescue at 0745. Gish and Springsteadah were killed almost instantly. Daniel and Sliz were seriously wounded. Evidence indicates Etchberger held off the Sappers, and was probably assisted by Calfee. The survivors owe their lives to the valor of these two men who killed at least two Sappers, kept the enemy at bay and bought time.
