Site History and Findings of Fact

Property consists of 54.29 fees acres, 2.95 easement acres, and 0.66 license, and was acquired in 9 separate transactions between July 1949 and February 1961. Prior to procuring the property in fee, 40 acres had been leased between 1949 and 1956. 64 buildings were constructed, with the site consisting of a main station with two satellite areas, one of which was a 3.69-acre GATR facility located ¾ mile southwest of the main base, and the other being the 7.69 acre family housing area located directly north of the station.

Site closure was announced by the Air Force on April 8 1970, purchased by a private party, thoroughly salvaged and abandoned. The family housing area was completely salvaged, relocated or razed, and returned to agricultural use.

The property was disposed of in five separate transactions:
-The 3.69-acre GATR facility was sold to Minnesota Educational Radio, Inc on December 1972, which operates a broadcast tower at the site
-43.15 acres fee, plus a 0.54 acres easement and 0.66 acre license to Mr. G Menkveld on October 1973, and then to Murray County in April 1981
-7.45 acres fee to Estrem, Hoffman and Zeiske on Sept 1973, and Ada Talsma on July 1975
-0.41 acres to the Village of Chandler on May 1972
