AN/FSS-7 Antenna at Fort Fisher AFS, NC
| This radar was a modified AN/FPS-26 height-finder radar produced by Avco Corporation to detect submarine-launched ballistic missiles. The system deployed at seven sites in the 1960s. One site was phased out in the mid 1970s, and five more sites were phased out during the early 1980s. The remaining unit continued in operation in the Southeast for a few more years to provide coverage over Cuba. |
